In Old World Germany, the last decoration placed on the Christmas tree was always a pickle…carefully hidden deep in the boughs. Legend has it that the observant child who found it on Christmas Day was blessed with a year of good fortune…and a special gift.
Where are your dreams, goals and visions hidden?
Perfectionism, the “I have to get it right the first time” syndrome.
I know, I wanted to make my first blog posting brilliant the first time out. While it was a nice idea, it just didn’t work out that way. I didn’t pose the question, I didn’t let you the readers know Sandy is a real client that wanted to share and get feed back to her frustration to writing and selling her vision.
NO!! The way perfectionism works, is it ties you up in knots, sending you fleeing from your desk, spinning in circles, making you so crazy you can’t think straight, let alone write.
Hmmm – and then it suddenly dawns on me that is exactly why I created “the Uptown Ladies Club” to mastermind. I don’t need to be a perfectionist. I need to be transparent, to share my thoughts, and get the insight of others, and at the same time, remember to not let my passion cloud my judgment thinking I have to have all the answers.
Perfectionism leads to paralysis
This leads to procrastination
Our conversation creating a vision in a microwave world left me in a bit of a quandary. As we listed the instant examples that our culture has become accustomed to, from microwave cooking, to fast passes at Disneyland so we don’t have to wait in lines, to being annoyed if the speed of our internet connection is not blazing fast, and we used to think dial-up was fast.
Oh my gosh!! I couldn’t agree with you more when you said
“instant everything is a mindset for failure.”
Do you think that’s why we don’t have clarity of outcome? I know I need and enjoy my downtime to think, reflect, pray, write, review, ponder and call you to discuss the ripple effects. Some of my best and deepest conversations were during the planning stages. Even our conversations today are instant, text messaging, email, and twitter. Are we loosing the ability to communicate? How do you share you visions and dreams in a world of 140 characters or less?
