Leadership is a privilege, understanding this rule will allow you to get beyond yourself.
- While the leader should lead the ship, the team, the project, all while building the relationship.
- A leader may ask –how do you do that?
- First, you assume nothing, you teach and ask everything in a non-threatening yet conversational way that gives you the needed insight. For a seasoned leader will see the void, the disconnect, the need to ask more questions and gain the understanding to learning how to build the bridge in getting from point A to point B.
Mahatma Gandhi once remarked,
”The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world’s problems.”
When a leader has not gleaned from the experience of his years, his elders and his failures, he has not yet discovered how little he knows about leading. For this cocky and unteachable man misses the greatest opportunity for growth – it is then he destroys his vision.
To grow beyond yourself, take ownership remain humble and most of all teachable, never stop learning. Effective leaders persistently ask themselves. “What value did I offer or do today?” “Am I a river or a reservoir?”
For I believe we should not strive to be people of success, but people of value. For when we are of value to our customers, our business, our family, and our communities, only then will we truly be a success with each other.
A Middle Eastern saying,
“may you have your life so that when you die, the world will cry, and you will rejoice.”
Everyone has the ability to go beyond them self to connect. But if you want to be a better leader you must learn to connect with people. Winston Churchill once said, –
“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”
What will you give in return for the thanks you have? What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving Season?
From my heart to yours, may you be a person of value, reaping and sowing in a season of harvest.
Peace be with you – Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family – Vicki.
I believe it’s time for a change, I believe if we take ownership in our lives one by one others will follow. We become better role models and leaders in our families, communities, and work places, as we call our selves to a higher standard we set the bar for others to follow. As businesses continue to down size, we need to be more aware of how to lead our selves. Please join me in building a better tomorrow; using the time we have today.
